Intro to Navigation
Beginner | Adult (16+) | Full Day | Ratio 1:4
Are you interested in learning how to navigate using map and compass? As technology advances, map and compass navigation is becoming a lesser used skill, but it is still an incredibly important tool to keep you safe when exploring in a natural environment. We are offering a full‑day course designed to provide the base knowledge and teach the core techniques that can be used to navigate competently and confidently.
The day will start indoors with an introduction and a short discussion on map theory, before introducing some key navigation skills in a classroom setting. We will then head out into a local natural area, such as the Campsie Fells, and start to put the theory into practice. We will go for a short hike using skills we have learned, while introducing some fun games and challenges to help develop the skills.
Your coach for the day will be a qualified professional, and will keep things relaxed and supportive to ensure you get the most you can out of the day. By the end of the day, you should understand the principles of map design and map reading, and have built some confidence using core navigation techniques in the real world.
Already got some navigation experience? Feel free to reach out for a bespoke offering which can develop your skills and confidence beyond your current level.
