Youth Worker/Outdoor Learning Activity Leader

£14 per hour - Part Time - Temporary Contract (extension possible)

Twechar Outdoor Pursuits Centre is seeking a committed and positive Youth Worker/Outdoor Learning Activity Leader to support the delivery of our youth programmes and provide relationship‑based support to families engaging with centre services. This 16‑hour role is funded through a dedicated project and focuses on both outdoor activity delivery and family engagement, helping ensure continuity, wellbeing, and access across all programme strands.

This position suits someone who enjoys working with young people, thrives in practical environments, and is confident building supportive relationships with families and the wider community.

About the Role

As a Youth Activity Worker, you will play a hands‑on role in delivering safe, engaging, and inclusive outdoor sessions for young people, schools, families, and community groups. Activities may include paddlesports, climbing, axe throwing, bushcraft, indoor sessions, and community events.

Alongside activity delivery, you will support families through relationship‑based engagement, including wellbeing check‑ins, arranging referrals, coordinating transport, and helping ensure continuity across all programme strands. You will contribute to creating a welcoming, supportive environment where young people and families feel connected, confident, and able to participate fully.

Your work will be varied — from assisting with sessions, preparing activity spaces, and greeting visitors, to supporting families with practical barriers to participation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify and engage young people and families who may benefit from the project’s support.

  • Deliver and support safe, engaging outdoor learning sessions

  • Build positive, supportive relationships with young people and families

  • Conduct wellbeing check‑ins and maintain appropriate records

  • Arrange referrals to partner organisations where needed

  • Coordinate transport to support participation and reduce barriers

  • Provide continuity across programme strands, ensuring families feel supported throughout

  • Welcome visitors, answer enquiries, and support bookings

  • Contribute to centre upkeep, cleaning, and preparation of activity spaces

  • Maintain high standards of safety, safeguarding, and professionalism

  • Represent the values and ethos of Twechar Outdoor Pursuits Centre

Person Specification

Essential

  • Experience delivering or supporting activity sessions

  • Positive, reliable, and proactive attitude

  • Confidence working with children, young people, and families

  • Experience in youth work, outdoor centres, or community settings

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Commitment to safety, inclusion, and high‑quality delivery

Desirable

  • 16‑hour First Aid

  • Safeguarding training

  • Relevant outdoor qualifications (e.g., RCI, PSI, PSL)

  • Experience in additional activity areas

  • Experience driving a minibus

  • PVG membership

Hours & Pay

  • 16 hours per week contract, with additional hours available, flexible working including evenings and weekends

  • £14 per hour
