Senior Outdoor Education Instructor

£15.00 per hour - Full Time - Temporary Contract (extension possible)

Twechar Outdoor Pursuits Centre is seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Outdoor Education Instructor to join our team. This full‑time role (35 hours per week) runs from 01/09/2026 to 31/03/2027, with the possibility of extension. Hours are flexible and will include evenings and weekends.

This senior position plays a key role in delivering high‑quality, inclusive outdoor learning experiences for young people, schools, families, and community groups. We are looking for someone who is professional, reliable, and passionate about outdoor education, with the confidence and capability to lead sessions, uphold standards, and support the smooth running of a busy community‑focused centre.

About the Role

As a Senior Outdoor Education Instructor, you will take a lead role in planning, delivering, and overseeing safe, engaging outdoor learning sessions across our full activity range. This may include paddlesports, cycling, axe throwing, climbing, bushcraft, and indoor programmes.

You will support daily centre operations, ensure activity areas are prepared to a high standard, and act as a positive role model for staff, volunteers, and participants. The role requires someone who thrives in practical environments, can adapt confidently to changing demands, and contributes to a safe, welcoming atmosphere for all centre users.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver safe, high‑quality outdoor learning sessions across multiple activity areas

  • Provide technical leadership, modelling best practice and supporting junior instructors

  • Oversee session setup, pack‑down, and equipment checks, ensuring kit is safe and well maintained

  • Support daily centre operations, including visitor engagement, bookings, and reception cover

  • Maintain high standards of safety, safeguarding, and professionalism at all times

  • Contribute to programme planning and development, ensuring sessions are inclusive and engaging

  • Represent the values and ethos of Twechar Outdoor Pursuits Centre in all interactions

Person Specification

Essential

  • Proven experience delivering and leading outdoor activity sessions

  • Strong communication, teamwork, and leadership skills

  • Confidence working with children, young people, and the public

  • Experience in outdoor centres, youth work, or community settings

  • Positive, reliable, and proactive approach

  • Commitment to safety, inclusion, and high‑quality delivery

  • Relevant outdoor qualifications (e.g., RCI, PSI, PSL, Archery GB)

Desirable

  • 16‑hour First Aid

  • Safeguarding training

  • Experience delivering additional activity areas

  • Minibus driving experience

  • PVG membership

Hours & Pay

  • Full‑time, 35 hours per week
