20 years in the making….

Twechar Outdoor Pursuits Centre has been a dream of Twechar residents for a long time, nearly 20 years in fact.

The original youth group thought it was a great idea after visiting outdoor centres, learning new skills and gaining knowledge on various outdoor activities. Once back in the village realised they had no where to practice and living right at The Forth & Clyde Canal it seemed fitting they had their own facility. So after years of hard work, feasibility studies and considerable investment from Scottish Government, Sports Scotland, The Scottish Landfill Communities Fund and of course East Dunbartonshire Council support - this dream has become a reality.

Twechar Community Action, the charity who are central to the transformation of Twechar over the last 2 decades are now the in place as the tenants and will operate the facility, providing educational, training and volunteer opportunities to not only Twechar but the surrounding areas.
